This statuette is a replica of the Nittany Lion Shrine that is found on the Pennsylvania State University. It is a favorite spot for visitors and photos. The Nittany Lion Shrine was a gift of the class of 1940. The statue is a memorial to the mountain lions that roamed the area before the University was founded in 1855. The Nittany Lion statue was carved in the summer of 1942. It has since become the symbol of Penn State Pride and Loyalty. It is recognized around the world by Penn Staters, past, present and future.
